From Flooded Deer Hunting Fields to Fishing Success: Adapting Plans at Fort Stewart

By Wander ’BoutApril 7, 2026

Access checked October 1, 2026: Fort Stewart–Hunter Army Airfield recreation areas require a valid installation recreation permit. Check open areas and current check-in/check-out procedures through iSportsman, and display each visitor’s printed permit as the required vehicle pass. Installation access and military training closures also apply.

Fishing in ponds with heavy vegetation like lily pads and grass can be challenging, but with the right techniques, it can also be incredibly rewarding. In this blog, we share our top tips for fishing in these conditions. From using topwater lures at night to understanding where bass are likely to hide, we’ll guide you through the process of landing the big one.

Our adventure didn't just teach us new fishing techniques; it also reminded us of the importance of flexibility and creativity when plans go awry. Just because our original plan fell through didn't mean the adventure had to stop. Instead, we ended the day with three beautiful largemouth bass and a renewed appreciation for the unpredictability of nature.
